A Weekend at Indianapolis
Spending Time with Sean McAuliffe #46 Lamborghini On September 18 - 20, 2025 at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo race in Indianapolis, Fibre Glast had the privilege of sponsoring Sean McAuliffe and his #46 Lamborghini. It was a weekend filled with speed, media coverage, and behind-the-scenes insights from Sean himself, giving us a closer look at what it’s really like to push a race car to its limits at one of the most iconic tracks in the world. The Magic of Indianapolis For Sean, just being at Indy is special. “The sheer size of the place is pretty incredible, and you can definitely feel the history of the track,” he shared. The layout provides a mix of long straights, heavy braking zones, and quick transitions that make the course both challenging and rewarding. Sean described one of his favorite sections between Turn 2 and Turn 3: “You come down the front straight hitting 170 mph, slam on the brakes, turn in for a 90-degree right, stab and release the throttle, then flick the car left into a decreasing radius right. It’s technical, fast, and a ton of fun.” The Role of Aerodynamics & Lightweight Materials As a distributor of advanced composites, we were especially interested in Sean’s take on materials and performance. “Weight and aero are huge difference makers in racing,” he explained. “Lighter weight increases grip in slower corners, while aerodynamics, especially downforce, lets you push the car beyond the limits of normal grip. I’ve pulled over 2 G’s of lateral load in the Lamborghini. A streetcar might only hit 0.7 to 0.9.” That ability to rewire the brain and trust the car’s grip levels is what makes racing such a unique mental challenge. Composites: The Hidden Safety Net Sean was also quick to point out that carbon fiber and Kevlar don’t just make cars faster, they make them safer. Helmets, HANS devices, and even structural panels rely on composites to absorb impact while remaining lightweight. “What we do could be seen as dangerous, but thanks to these materials, it’s rare for drivers to sustain serious injuries,” he noted. At Fibre Glast, this hits close to home. The same high-performance carbon fiber, Kevlar, and fiberglass that Sean trusts on the track are available through our catalog for builders, engineers, and innovators everywhere. Inside the Driver’s Mind Interestingly, Sean says that raw top speed isn’t the most nerve-wracking part of racing. “Going 170 mph with downforce is kind of a non-event,” he laughed. “It’s how fast you can take corners that’s crazy. Sometimes the goal is just to hang on at 80 mph, and my inner voice is screaming, ‘Don’t lift, don’t lift!’ while my subconscious says, ‘Maybe just a little lift.’ That’s what I love, pushing past my comfort zone.” The Path to the Podium Like many drivers, Sean’s journey has been fueled by passion and persistence. “I’ve been obsessed with cars and racing for as long as I can remember. What really drives me is constant improvement. While I’m racing others, I’m also racing myself. Can I brake later? Carry more speed? Be more consistent? The stopwatch keeps me honest.” His current goal is to use Super Trofeo as a steppingstone toward GT3 racing, with dreams of competing, and winning, at the legendary 24 Hours of Daytona. Advice for Future Racers For anyone dreaming of motorsport, Sean’s advice is simple but powerful: “Set the goal. If you have a conscious goal, you’ll naturally find ways to get there. On a practical level, go to a local track, whether it’s karting or oval racing, and talk to people. The racing community is tight-knit and welcoming.” Looking Ahead Our weekend with Sean McAuliffe wasn’t just about watching a race, it was about seeing the role of composites come alive in one of the most demanding environments in motorsport. Having Sarah Renner join me at Indy made it even more special, reminding us how our Fibre Glast team is connected not just to our products, but to the people and passions that drive the racing industry forward.
